Rachael is a textiles artist and writer. The purpose of her site is to make people think differently about textiles, so she wants lots to explore and a browse-able feel.
Rachael's aesthetic comes from punk and knitting. Her favourite wool, Herdwick, is thick, itchy and grey/brown. She often sticks bright dressmakers' pins into the wool as she works, so I took this as my starting point to create dashes of brightness against a dull background.
Another inspiration was vintage Paddington Bear cartoons which feature paper cut-outs, so I used CSS to add white borders and drop shadows to images, and to angle them in an off-kilter way.
